Major Injury Sidelines Stanford O-Line

Darren Sabedra, the Stanford beat writer for the San Jose Mercury News, reported today that left tackle Allen Smith, who without a doubt has been the most effective player on the Cardinal line, had surgery on Monday to repair a torn patella tendon in his left knee. Needless to say, he's done for the year, starting with this weekend's home match-up with our Sun Devils.

Ben Muth will fill in for Stanford in his place, and if you watch the game film, it's right about when Muth came in when Oregon started to really get pressure on T.C. Ostrander, who flourished in the 2nd quarter and led the Cardinal to a short-lived 31-21 halftime lead.

This is good news for the Devils, who's D-Line has struggled to get consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks throughout their first four games. With Michael Marquardt coming back and Luis Vasquez under some pressure to live up to the expectations placed on him after transferring to ASU, look for the Devils to blitz often to rattle the Stanford QB.
